Watery Adventure
Little lost branch bobs in the river
floating,
turning, twisting
bumping,
smashing into rocks
submerging,
popping up, twisting, turning
Warm sunshine
watches
drying stick,
only to see it get wet again
watching its frantic
journey
Rushing, rushing,
down the river
going, going,
hurrying
full of purpose,
but it doesn’t know what
finally it finds
peace
a shallow pool,
a haven of tranquility
it bobs gently, at
peace
as the river
rushes on
Little boy in
blue shorts
Barney tee-shirt
and marshmallow lips
dirty feet,
dirty hands
looking for
adventure
Sees stick, eyes
light up
A new treasure,
Alladin’s gold
feels, holds,
studies
this will make a
good gun
Hides behind
rocks, takes aim
shoots bad guys,
ducks, shoots again
he’s a dead shot,
and they all miss
game gets old,
time for a new adventure
lunchtime! Mom
calls
One last pleasure
to enjoy
with a mighty
effort, casts the gun into the river
bobbing, bobbing
a gun now, it
travels on
intent with
purpose
rushing towards
its next watery adventure
